ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Hope’s Josh Grabijas and Kalamazoo’s Katie Grue its Athletes of the Week in swimming and diving for meets through January 21.
Men’s Swimming and Diving
Grabijas, an junior from Howell (Howell HS), swam to an in-season personal best time in the 1,000-yard freestyle against NCAA Division II power Grand Valley State University on Friday night. His final time of 9:52.94 in that event was the fastest time in the MIAA so far this season. Grabijas also won the 500-yard freestyle with another in-season best of 4:43.31. He is being honored for for the first time this season.
Women’s Swimming and Diving
Grue, a senior from Berkeley, Calif. (Berkeley HS), won all four events she participated in against defending MIAA champion Calvin Saturday. She opened the meet by leading off the Hornet 200-yard medley relay in a time of 29.61. She then captured first place in both butterfly events, taking the 100-yard fly in 1:01.54 the 200 fly in 2:14.23. She then swam a :25.08 leg to help Kalamazoo win the 200-yard freestyle relay. Grue is being honored for the first time this season.
