Sophomore forward Chris Boyd (Milford, MA) gave Suffolk an early lead at the 9:44 mark before sophomore forward Chris Connors (Albany, NY) tied the contest just 1:08 later.
Western New England took the lead for good when sophomore forward Trent Krueger (White Bear Lake, MN) scored a short-handed goal at 12:32. The Golden Bears tacked on two more goals to take a 4-1 advantage after the first period.
WNE broke the game open with three goals in a wild second period, which featured a brawl that resulted in five players from each squad being ejected.
Krueger finished with two goals as did freshman forward Brandon Stroud (Clarksville, IN). Senior forward Mike Kaselouskas (East Longmeadow, MA) contributed a goal and three assists. Sophomore goalie Eric Sorenson (Fairport, NY) compiled 12 saves for the win.
Sophomore goalie Cam Kelly (Brighton, MA) started for the visitors and made 34 stops. Freshman Brett Roman (Rock Tavern, NY) played the final 10 minutes and turned away nine shots while allowing just one goal.
