FIELD HOCKEY
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Endicott College junior forward Taylor Matties (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) blasted a game-winning goal with just 56 seconds into overtime to deliver a 2-1 victory against #2 University of New England and the Gulls’ first CCC Field Hockey Championship in program history. Matties also assisted on the opening goal of the game, a strike that tied the game at one. Matties now has 13 assists on the year to lead the team and put her among leaders in the country in assists per game.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Endicott College junior goalkeeper Taylor Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) was lights out in the CCC tournament, allowing just one goal to post a goals against average of 0.50 in over 140 minutes of play, including a semifinal shutout victory over Gordon, her fifth of the season. She also turned away eight shots on goal and made one defensive save on the week. Teixeira’s clutch goaltending is a large part of the Gulls’ first NCAA tournament appearance in school history.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – University of New England freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Warren (Boscawen, N.H.) anchored the defense in a 1-1 week for the Nor’easters. She posted a goals against average of 1.49 while making 26 saves over 141 minutes, including a season-high 17 in a 2-1 semifinal victory over #4 Nichols. She closed out the CCC Tournament turning away nine shots on goal in a tough 2-1 overtime loss to #1 Endicott.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Roger Williams University senior forward Katie Fusaro (Hopkinton, Mass.) netted two clutch goals in a 2-0 week for the Hawks. In a 4-3 semifinal victory over #3 Salve Regina she scored the game-tying goal in the 64th minute. Fusaro followed with her 19th career game-winning goal in the 106th minute of a 1-0 double overtime triumph over #4 Endicott to claim the team’s second consecutive CCC women’s soccer Championship.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Roger Williams University senior defender Taryn Roussel (Ivoryton, Conn.) played a key part in the Hawks’ defensive line in a 2-0 week. The Hawks’ defense helped limit CCC opponents to 11 shots on goal over 193 minutes of play, including six shots in a 4-3 semifinal victory over #3 Salve Regina and five shots in a dramatic 1-0 double overtime triumph against #4 Endicott.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Roger Williams University freshman midfielder Kristen Tetreault (Tolland, Conn.) was an asset in the Hawks’ 2-0 week. She knotted up the game to even the score 2-2 in the 54th minute in a 4-3 semifinal victory over Salve Regina. The Hawks’ went on to win its second straight CCC Championship in double-overtime against Endicott, 1-0
MEN’S SOCCER
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Western New England senior forward Austin Santolini (Agawam, Mass.) scored the game winning goal in the 68th minute to secure the 2011 CCC Men’s Soccer Championship. The Golden Bears defeated Nichols in 1-0 victory and will be making their seventh appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the last eight years.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Western New England sophomore goalkeeper Domenick Villano (Bronxville, N.Y.) anchored the Golden Bears defense with a stingy 0.50 goals against average in a 2-0 week. In a CCC semifinal matchup against #5 Roger Williams in the Championship Tournament, he made three saves and only allowed one goal in a 2-1 victory. Villano went on to shutout the Nichols Bison 1-0, making two saves in the conference championship victory.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Western New England freshman defender Chris Bruton (Guilford, Conn.) helped anchor a defense that allowed just six shots on goal over 180 minutes of play in the 2011 CCC Championship Tournament. Bruton’s defense helped lead the Golden Bears to a 2-0 week and the 2011 CCC Men’s Soccer Championship title and the team’s seventh NCAA berth in eight years.
VOLLEYBALL
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Roger Williams University junior setter Emily Lebowitz (Coventry, Conn.) helped lead the Hawks to a 2-0 week and the CCC Championship, and averaged 13.29 assists per set. She chipped in 33 assists in a 3-0 semifinal sweep of Western New England to advance to the Championship match. She put up a stunning 60 assists in a 3-1 triumph versus Endicott in the Championship match to set the Roger Williams single-match assists record. She now has a career high 1000 assists on the season.
LIBERO OF THE WEEK – Roger Williams University junior Kelsee Loche (Millis, Mass.) was a key factor in a 2-0 week for the Hawks’ as she averaged 7.14 digs per set and 0.86 service aces per set. She helped limit opponents to a team hitting percentage of 0.083. Loche tallied 50 digs on the week, including 17 in a three-set sweep of Western New England, and 33 in a 3-1 CCC Championship victory over Endicott.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Roger Williams University freshman outside hitter Danna McDonald (Santa Monica, Calif.) enjoyed a solid week as the Hawks’ clinched its second straight CCC Volleyball Championship. She averaged 4.0 kills and 3.5 digs per set while hitting .259. McDonald rattled off 24 kills and 21 digs in CCC Tournament play, including a double-double in a 3-1 victory over Endicott in the Championship match, with18 kills and 16 digs.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
FEMALE RUNNER OF THE WEEK - University of New England sophomore Colleen Ahern (Salem, Conn.) finished 18th in a field of 276 runners in the 2011 ECAC Championship. Her 6K time of 24:00 helped the Nor’easters finish 11th out of 40 teams.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Roger Williams University freshman Jane Depgen (Orange, Conn.) placed 95th out of 276 runners at the ECAC Championship with a 6K time of 26:04. The Hawks finished 18th of 40 teams.
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
MALE RUNNER OF THE WEEK – University of New England freshman Shane Murphy (Glastonbury, Conn.) finished 50th out of 300 runners in the 2011 ECAC Championship with an 8K time of 28:00. His showing helped the Nor’easters places 15th of 44 teams.
MALE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - University of New England freshman Chad Lyons (West Rutland, Vt.) finished 55th out of 300 runners at the ECAC Championship, just five slots and four ticks behind his teammate.
