Tamboia Leads Scranton To 4-2 Victory Over Keystone

Senior forward Alicia Tamboia (Wingdale, N.Y./Dover) scored a pair of goals for the second straight match to lead The University of Scranton field hockey team to a 4-2 victory over Keystone College on Thursday night at chilly Fitzpatrick Field.

Tamboia also scored two goals in Tuesday's 3-2 victory over Vassar. She is now second on the team with seven goals this season and has nine for her career.

Junior forward Gretchen Kempf (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) and freshman forward Cassie Mullen (Chester Springs, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) added goals as the Royals improved to 11-5, the team's most since going 11-9 in 2006.

Tamboia gave Scranton an early lead when she scored on a rebound at the 14:59 mark of the first half. The Royals took the 1-0 lead into halftime before Kempf scored her team-leading 14th of the season at the 46:12 mark in the second half, an unassisted goal following a save by the Keystone goalkeeper.

Kempf's 14 goals are the seventh most in a single season in school history. She now has 24 career goals, 10th best in school history.

Mullen put the Royals ahead, 3-0, in the 52nd minute when she scored on a rebound of a shot by Kempf. The goal was her fourth of the season. After Keystone cut the lead to 3-1, Tamboi added her second goal at the 59:07 mark on a shot from 12 yards out on the left point.

Senior Alexandria Marandino (Granby, Conn./Northwest Catholic) made four saves in goal in the first half while freshman Krista Mundy (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) came on to make four saves of her own after halftime.

The win was the second straight for the Royals over Keystone (6-9) and gave Scranton a 3-1 lead in the series since Keystone became a four-year institution.

Scranton returns to action on Saturday when Juniata comes to town for a Landmark Conference match at 1 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field. The Royals can secure a playoff berth with a win over the Eagles.
