Kalamazoo’s Leonard, Trine’s Radekin Named MIAA Players of the Week in Volleyball

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Kalamazoo outside hitter Colleen Leonard its Player of the Week and Trine setter Sarah Radekin its Specialty Player of the Week in volleyball for matches played through October 22.

Player of the Week

Leonard, a senior from Mason (Mason HS), had 50 kills and 44 digs in leading the Hornets to a 2-1 record in MIAA matches for the week. She double-double performances in all three matches – 17 kills and 15 digs in a four-set win over Olivet, 15 kills and 17 digs in a narrow five-set loss to Alma, and 18 kills and 12 digs in a five-set win over Trine. Leonard is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and second time in her career.

 

Specialty Player of the Week

Radekin, a junior from Athens, Ohio (Alexander HS), dished out 133 assists (11.1 per set) and added 28 digs for the week as the Thunder won two of three MIAA matches. She had 38 assists and 13 digs in a sweep of Albion, 46 assists and three service aces in a four-set victory over Saint Mary’s, and 49 assists and 11 digs in a five-set loss to Kalamazoo. Radekin is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and second time in her career.
