ROYAL OAK, Mich. –The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin’s Matt Vander Roest and Albion’s Lauren Kettle its Runners of the Week in cross country for meets through October 15.
Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Vander Roest, a senior from Ann Arbor (Huron HS), finished third in the Brooks Invitational at Wis.-Oshkosh with a time of 25:05 over the 8-kilometer course. His performance helped the Knights finish fourth among 47 teams at the meet, which was run on the same course where the Division III national championships will be decided later this fall. Vander Roest is being honored as Runner of the Week for the second time this season.
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Kettle, a freshman from Milford (Milford HS), took first place among 282 runners with a school-record performance at the Inter-Region Rumble at Oberlin, Ohio. Kettle, who is being honored as Runner of the Week for the second time this season, posted a time of 22:23.6 over the 6-kilometer course for her third invitational victory of the season, leading Albion to a seventh-place finish among 33 teams in the meet.
