LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball remained unbeaten in 2011 with a 3-0 win over Maryville on Saturday afternoon in the Warner Center.
W&L, which moved to 12-0 with the win, blanked Maryville (6-5) 25-20, 25-21, 25-16. The 12 wins to start the season is the best start in school history and the longest winning streak the Generals have had since winning 13 in a row from Oct. 1-Oct. 21 in 2008.
W&L was held to a .198 hitting percentage as a team, just the second time all season the Generals have hit below .200, but recorded 10 service aces, including three from first-year setter Corinne Hemmersbach (Torrance, Calif./Chadwick) to dispatch the Scots.
Sophomore outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) led the way with 13 kills, followed closely by senior outside hitter Megan Daily (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook), who recorded 12 kills with a .379 hitting percentage. Boles also tied for the team lead with 11 digs, while registering a pair of service aces.
Junior libero Cameron Hill (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant) also had 11 digs and sophomore setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) had 10 digs to go with 32 assists and a pair of blocks. Senior middle blocker Lindsey Dee (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay School) chipped in six kills and three blocks.
The Scots were led by senior outside hitter Kristin Findley (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville Christian), who registered 10 kills, six digs and a pair of blocks. Junior setter Teri Lind (Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie) had 15 assists and junior right side Kara Strickland (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) notched 15 digs.
The Generals will look to make it 13-straight wins when they host Bridgewater on Tuesday at 6:30 pm.
