Gents Continue Winning Ways With 2-0 Shutout Of Ozarks On Senior Night

Shreveport - The Centenary men's soccer team extended its season-high winning streak to four as the Gents recorded a 2-0 shutout victory over the University of the Ozarks Eagles on Friday night in their annual Senior Night contest at Atkins Field.

The Gents (7-5-2, 5-2-0 SCAC) honored their senior class in a pregame ceremony and then blanked the Eagles (3-9-2, 2-5 SCAC) to secure their fourth-straight win, fifth shutout of the season, and improved to 5-1-1 at home.

Centenary has outscored its last three opponents 15-2 and held an opponent to one goal or less for the eighth time this season. The Gents' five conference wins are the most in a single season since joining the SCAC prior to the 2012 season.

Senior MF Brandon Guevara (Henderson, Texas) scored his second goal of the season with sophomore MF Joshua Mensah (Baton Rouge, La.) assisting to give the Gents a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute.

The Gents held that 1-0 lead until junior D Hayden McConnell (Flower Mound, Texas) found the net in the 61st minute with freshman D/MF Bevan Flanagan (Murphy, Texas) credited with the assist for a 2-0 lead. Senior GK Casey Clemo (Forney, Texas) pitched his second shutout of the season and made six saves in his 90 minutes. Maksym Maliutenko went the distance for the Eagles and made four saves.

The Gents are eying a berth into next month's conference tournament as the 2025 SCAC Men's Soccer Tournament returns to a six-team format for the first time since the 2020-21 COVID-19 shortened season. The tournament will be held the first week of November at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas. Quarterfinal matches will be contested on Thursday, Nov. 6, the semifinal matches on Friday, Nov. 7 and the championship match will be played Sunday, Nov. 9.

The Gents, picked to finish eighth in the preseason poll, are currently alone in third place in the conference standings, have accumulated 15 points, and their five wins are tied for the most in the league with Texas Lutheran University (5-1-1).

Centenary will face the Hendrix College Warriors (5-7-2, 4-2-1 SCAC) on Sunday at 2 PM in another key league match.
