Gents Secure Key Road Win At LeTourneau

Longview, Texas - The Centenary men's soccer team edged the LeTourneau University YellowJackets 2-1 on Friday night in a key Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at the LETU Soccer Field.

The Gents (5-5-2, 3-2-0 SCAC) won their second match in a row after a dominating 7-0 victory over the University of Dallas Crusaders at home last Sunday and improved to 2-4-1 on the road this season. The YellowJackets (2-4-5, 1-2-2 SCAC) are now 1-3-3 at home this season and are 1-2-2 over their last five matches.

Centenary scored first as junior D Hayden McConnell (Flower Mound, Texas) scored his first goal of the season, assisted by junior MF Jacob Ramsey (Baton Rouge, La.), in the 23rd minute for a 1-0 lead.

The Gents took their 1-0 lead to halftime and until the 67th minute when Henry Shore found the net to tie the match at 1-1. But, in the 75th minute junior D Aidan Miller (Keller, Texas) scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal to make it 2-1 with the assist from junior D Lochlan Scott (Glasgow, Scotland).

Miller now has three goals this season and has scored in consecutive matches, McConnell scored his second-career goal, Scott recorded his first assist of the season, and Ramsey is now tied for the conference lead in assists with five. 

Senior GK Casey Clemo (Forney, Texas) started his third-straight match and picked up the win as he went the distance and recorded six saves. Carson Gamble played all 90 minutes for the YellowJackets and made five saves.

LeTourneau finished with a 20-14 advantage in shots as both teams were aggressive on offense as each finished with seven shots on goal. The YellowJackets finished with an 8-3 edge in corner kicks and there were 18 total fouls in the match as the Gents were whistled for 11 and the YellowJackets seven.

Friday's match was an important one as the Gents, picked to finish eighth in the preseason poll, entered the night sixth in the conference standings while the YellowJackets, picked seventh in the preseason poll, were seventh entering Friday's play.

The 2025 SCAC Men's Soccer Tournament, which returns to a six-team format for the first time since the 2020-21 COVID-19 shortened season, will be held the first week of November at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas. Quarterfinal matches will be contested on Thursday, Nov. 6, the semifinal matches on Friday, Nov. 7 and the championship match will be played Sunday, Nov. 9.

The Gents are back home on Sunday for another important conference contest as they welcome the Austin College 'Roos (4-4-2, 3-1-1 SCAC) to Atkins Field at 2 PM. The 'Roos earned a 2-0 shutout win at home over the University of St. Thomas on Friday.
