Frank Ignites Fast Start As Royals Down Centenary, 13-8, To Move To 4-1 On The Season

SCRANTON, Pa.—Junior attacker Kyle Frank (Glen Arm, Md./Boys' Latin) ignited a fast start to lead The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team to a 13-8 victory over Centenary College in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Field.

Frank scored twice in the first period and another early in the second period to cap off a 3-goal performance as the Royals jumped out to 7-1 halftime lead.  Scranton, which won its second straight game to improve to 4-1, also received two goals and an assist from junior attacker Taylor Nelson (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East), a goal and two assists from senior attacker Daniel Slade (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East), and a goal and an assist from sophomore midfielder John Gregitis (Wayne, Pa./St. Joseph's Preparatory).

Centenary, which dropped its fourth straight game to fall to 1-4, was led by junior attacker Cameron Gunn (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) with four goals and junior attacker Robert Nuzzolese (Woodbury, NY/Syosset) contributed a pair.

The Royals dominated play in the first half, holding a commanding 29-7 advantage in shots to build up enough of a cushion before the Cyclones made a late rally in the fourth period to make the final score respectable.

Overall, Scranton won 15 of the 24 face-off attempts, including 14 of 19 by freshman Matt Finor (Churchville, Pa./Council Rock South), to keep the Cyclones on the defensive side of the field throughout much of the afternoon.

The Royals also received a goal apiece from senior midfielder Mike Rufo (Broomall, Pa./Haverford School), junior midfielders Dillon McInerney (Hawthorne, NJ/Bergen Catholic) and Olaf Gilliam (Piermont, NY/Tappan Zee), senior midfielder Matt Glenn (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks East), and sophomore midfielder Jake Hutchins (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood).

Defensively, Scranton allowed just 12 shots on goal.  Junior Ben Worthington (Jenkintown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and sophomore Colin Gable (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) combined to make four saves for the Royals, who will open their Landmark Conference schedule this Saturday, March 24, against Washington & Jefferson in Washington, Pennsylvania, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Frank's three goals today moved him into 21st place on the Royals' all-time scoring list with 96 total points (67 goals, 29 assists).
