WOOSTER, Ohio - The Allegheny women's volleyball team headed to the campus of Wooster on Saturday, to compete in the first day of the final NCAC power weekend.
In their first match, the Gators would face the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan. The Gators have been knocking on the door in their last two NCAC matches, going the distance in each against Wooster earlier this week, and Hiram on October 4. With so many close calls, it was only a matter of time before Allegheny would get their second conference win, and they would get it in dominating fashion over the Battling Bishops.
Allegheny would defeat Ohio Wesleyan in straight sets 25-21, 25-19, 25-21. Senior Audra Batdorff and freshman Brynee Hazzard each paced the Gators with 11 kills, while freshman Katelynn Long and senior Caitlin Rothman contributed with seven and six kills respectively. Sophomore setter Madie Hudac would chip in with 26 assists, and senior Winnie Wong had 23 digs, as Allegheny would improve to 9-16 overall, and 2-7 in conference play.
The Gators second match of the day would come directly after their first, as they would play host Wooster in a rematch of Wednesday's thriller. With home court on the side of the Fighting Scots, Allegheny would not fare as well dropping their second match of the day in straight sets 20-25, 23-25, 18-25.
The Gators would hang tough, but Wooster was just too much to handle, as Allegheny would drop to 9-17 overall, and 2-8 in conference play.
Rothman would lead the Gators with 13 kills, with fellow senior Batdorff close behind with eight. Hudac would dish out 23 more assists, bringing her total to 49 on the day; while Wong would top the team with 18 digs, bringing her daily total to 41.
The Gators will face off against Hiram at 12:00 pm on Sunday, and will finish the weekend with Oberlin College at 4:00 pm.
