York, Pa. - Senior Genny Pezzola sits alone atop of the Swarthmore volleyball record book for career kills, passing Jennifer Wang's '08 previous record of 1,171 kills in the first set of the Garnet's victory over Centenary on Friday evening, leading Swat to a 3-1 weekend and third place at the York Spartan Invitational.
On Friday, Swarthmore defeated Centenary 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-19)but fell to the host York Spartans 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-8) in the second match. On Saturday, a pair of convincing victories over SUNY-IT (3-0 / 25-12, 25-23, 25-16) and Moravian (3-1 / 26-16, 25-19, 24-26, 25-20) secured third place for the Garnet.
Pezzola finished the weekend with 36 kills - 18 on each day. On Saturday, junior Kat Montemurro returned to the lineup and made her presence felt, finishing the day with a combined 18 kills - 13 of which came in the win over Moravian.
