One day after sweeping a pair of conference matches to open league play, the Centre College volleyball team split a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) matches Sunday, Sept. 25 in Sewanee, Tenn.
The split on day two of the SCAC East/Central Divisional puts the Colonels at 8-7 overall this year and 3-1 in league action through one weekend.
Centre opened the day falling to Colorado College in four games. After winning game one 25-22, the Colonels fell 25-15, 25-14 and 25-12.
Centre rebounded in game two to defeat Hendrix College, also in four games. The Warriors took game one 25-21, but the Colonels went on the win the next three games and the match 25-19, 25-12 and 25-21.
Senior Stephanie Woeste (Louisville, Ky.) had a strong day with 18 kills and eight blocks in the two matches, while fellow senior Hannah Greer (Owensboro, Ky.) tallied 71 assists with 22 digs in the win over Hendrix.
Freshman Suzanne Asbury (Louisville, Ky.) tallied seven kills and two blocks against Colorado. Senior Laura Hench (Lexington, Ky.) added 21 digs in the defeat.
Sophomores Kim Lownds (Evergreen, Colo.) and Lydia Prevost (Knoxville, Tenn.) also posted strong efforts against Hendrix. Lownds had 15 kills, while Prevost finished with 14 kills and five blocks.
Centre will be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 28 in a home match against Spalding University. The match is set to start at 7 p.m. in Alumni Gymnasium in Danville, Ky.
