After falling to the College of Mount St. Joseph in five games earlier in the week, the Centre College volleyball team dropped two more matches, also in five games, Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Hanover Tournament, hosted by Hanover College in Hanover, Ind.
The Colonels (2-5) opened the day by winning their first two games against Maryville College 25-21 and 25-16. The Scots then won the next three games 25-17, 26-24, 15-13 to win the match.
Freshman Suzanne Asbury (Louisville, Ky.) posted 16 kills, six blocks and four service aces. Senior Stephanie Woeste (Louisville, Ky.) notched nine kills and eight blocks. Senior Hannah Greer (Owensboro, Ky.) had 40 assists and senior Laura Hench (Lexington, Ky.) and sophomore Kary Stivers (Louisville, Ky.) had 26 and 13 digs respectively.
Match two of the day saw Centre earn a hard-fought 27-25 win in game one, but Hanover won the next two games 25-16 and 25-22 to take a 2-1 lead. The Colonels bounced back with a 25-19 win in game four, but fell in game five 19-17.
Sophomore Lydia Prevost (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Woeste each had 12 kills, with Prevost adding three blocks. Sophomore Kim Lownds (Evergreen, Colo.) tallied 11 kills and 13 digs. Greer recorded 43 assists, while Hench finished with 28 digs in the loss.
Centre will return to Danville, Ky. next weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16-17 to host the Centre Classic. The Colonels will play Kenyon College at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by a match against Marietta College at 7:30 p.m.
