Royals Go 2-2 At Season-Opening Battlefield Classic

GETTYSBURG, Pa.—The momentum that The University of Scranton established Friday at the Battlefield Classic quickly evaporated today.

After recording 3-1 wins over Penn State-Mont Alto and McDaniel College last night, the Royals could not seem to keep things going in their favor, losing 3-0 decisions to both Gettysburg and Eastern today.

First-year outside hitter Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute) had a combined 18 kills in Friday's wins and sophomore Katie Newman (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) came through in the win over McDaniel with nine service aces.  Junior setter Juli Woods (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) also had a big match against McDaniel, finishing with 12 assists and four service aces.

The Royals struggled today in their first match against Gettysburg and never recovered.  Junior libero Marissa Every (East Norriton, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) and Crilly led the way for Scranton with four kills apiece.

Scranton, now 2-2, will return to action next Wednesday, September 7, against FDU-Florham in Madison, New Jersey, at 7:00 p.m.
