Welcome to Division III Week!

For the long-time fans, the original spinning basketball logo!

It’s been Division III Week at D3sports.com since 1997. And we aim to keep it that way.

We’ve been covering Division III sports since D3hoops.com was still called Division III Basketball Online. It started as something we thought we would put a couple hours a night into, a couple of days a week, but we quickly found out there was this huge community of Division III fans out there, long before anyone knew what a social network was.

Division III fans made all this possible: adding sites for Division III football, baseball, soccer and hockey, as well as a job site and the message board. And like Division III student-athletes themselves, we’re in this for the love of the game. It’s a labor of love for all of us at D3sports.com. None of us can make this our full-time job, just like a Division III student-athlete can’t play basketball or football full-time.

You’ll read lots of stories this week about the NCAA’s first-ever Division III Week, and hopefully some great #whyd3 stories about the 400-plus schools and thousands of sports that make up the largest division of the NCAA. The #whyd3 coversation on Twitter continues, nearly a year after we first punched that key combination into a 140-character window. Follow our various Twitter handles for the best of those stories all week.

And all year. Because Division III deserves more than just one week!
