Piper VB Falls To Undefeated Blue Devils

As the night went on, the Hamline volleyball team got better and better in their Hutton Arena opener against undefeated Wis-Stout. The Pipers eventually fell by a 3-0 count Wednesday night but not before they gave the undefeated Blue Devils some very anxious moments.

HU dropped the first set, 25-16. But they came out swinging in the second set, grabbing a 3-0 lead and later extending the margin to six at 17-11. HU led 24-19 when the Blue Devils rallied with six straight points for a 25-24 edge. HU came back with two points in a row but Wis-Stout answered with three for a 28-26 decision.

The third set mirrored the second. Hamline started fast, grabbing an early 10-4 edge. They pushed it to seven at 18-11 before the Blue Devils began to whittle away to eventually tie matters at 24. The teams halved the next six point before Wis-Stout broke through for a 29-27 win to claim the match.

Madison Hurrle hit .414 for the nights and had 14 kills to lead Hamline's offense. Morgen Coleman had a dozen digs and Maggie Gavic added 10 to bolster the back wall. Megan Rubbelke was also in excellent form with a game high 32 assists.

The Pipers stand 5-2 overall. They head to River Falls this weekend for three matches before starting MIAC play September 18 at St. Mary's.
