Briggs Breaks Faceoff Record in Win at Houghton

HOUGHTON, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team was on the road Wednesday night for a matchup with Houghton College. The Saxons (7-3, 3-1 Empire 8) outscored the Highlanders 20-7 on the way to their third conference victory of the season.


Cale Donegan (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) was a huge part of the Saxon offense once again as he accounted for seven total points including six goals and an assist.


Joe Fornataro (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) played a big role in the Saxon scoring with four goals on the night. He also added an assist to total five points.


Noah Soriano (Valley Cottage, NY/Nyack) and Jack Chapman (Elmira, NY/Notre Dame) both recorded hat-tricks for AU. Soriano also tacked on two assists and five ground balls while Chapman chipped in one assist.


Garrette Briggs (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had another huge game in the face-off circle, as he went 29-30 on faceoff attempts while picking up a team high 21 ground balls and scoring a goal. The 29 faceoff wins breaks his own school and Empire 8 record.


Patrick Brewer (Bath, NY/Bath-Haverling),  Connor DiDomineck (Bath, NY/Haverling), and Adrian Romero (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) all scored one goal while Anthony Ricottilli (Cortland, NY/Cortland) had three assists and Kyle Landrigan (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) had two assists.


Shane Weber (Hull, MA/Hull), Jonathan Kay (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) and Connor Prunoske (Elmira, NY/Elmira) all ended with one assist while Jeremiah Kinner (Bath, NY/Haverling) caused a team high three turnovers.


Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) picked up another win in goal, going 30 minutes and making four saves. Brandon Smith (Queens, NY/The Governor's Academy) played the second half in the net and had one save.


"Garrette Briggs was exceptional today and gave us so many opportunities to score," Head coach Jason Lockner said. "The guys played hard and got the job done."



AU jumped out to a 7-1 lead after one quarter and never looked back. The Saxons dominated the whole way and will look to ride the momentum into Saturday's home game against Elmira at 1PM.
