Hope women's lacrosse tops Lourdes in home opener

Madison McCreery and the Hope College women's lacrosse team came out fast and furious to start their home opener on Saturday.

The freshman from Rockford, Michigan (Rockford HS), pictured, scored 23 seconds into the non-league match. The Flying Dutch never trailed en route to a 19-4 victory against Lourdes University (Ohio).

Head coach Kim Vincent was thrilled with her team's quick start. Hope scored four times during the first four minutes.

"We couldn't be prouder of the team for coming out strong in the beginning," Vincent said after the Flying Dutch improved to 2-1 overall. "It's something we've been working on this week in practice. It's about how we move the ball, how we work together and also the energy we bring to the game. We did everything we meant to accomplish."

Hope built a 12-1 lead by halftime.

Eight different players scored for the Flying Dutch during the match.

Sophomore Carly Pieri of Alto, Michigan (Caledonia) recorded a game-high four goals.

Three of Pieri's teammates chipped in three goals and one assist apiece: senior Allison Darnell of North Farmington, sophomore Rachel Elder of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids), and McCreery.
