MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Nichols College women's tennis team saw their season come to an end in the NCAA Tournament Second Round as the Bison fell to the No. 18-ranked Skidmore College, 5-0, on Friday morning in Middlebury, Vt.
The Bison wrap up their season at 20-3 overall, while the Thoroughbreds improve to 17-5 and advance to the Regional Final on Saturday morning.
Skidmore grabbed the first point of the day with an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles with freshman Risa Fukushige and senior Michelle Fuca defeating sophomores Amarie Settiwongse and Isabelle Leonardi. Sophomores Renee Karchere-Sun and Ada Wiggins followed with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles over senior Ashley Dallaire and sophomore Megan Nathanson, while sophomore Jessica Ampel and senior Alexa Goldberg registered an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles over senior Alanna Judd and sophomore Lindsey Kaplan.
Wiggins gave the Thoroughbreds a 4-0 lead in the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Judd, while junior Laura Swenson defeated freshman Juliana Herrera, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles to seal the match.
Settiwongse held a 6-4, 2-1 lead in her matchup at No. 1 singles over Fukushige, while Leonardi led Fuca 7-5, 1-1 at No. 4 singles before the match was called.
This was the first meeting between the two teams.
