Carleton-St. Thomas Game 1 updates

St. Thomas and Carleton are playing two MIAC softball games Sunday night indoors in Rochester. Game 1 started at 6:40 p.m. UST is the home team.

UST scored six runs on six hits in the second inning and won 9-4 in the top of the seventh inning

Hayley Dunning started for UST and retired eight of the first nine Carleton batters. Izza Marketon relieved in the top of the fifth inning.

Melissa Barry had a one-out single in the first but was stranded.

Sam Kile is pitching for the Knights and allowed one first-inning hit.  Corrie Lucchesi had an infield single in the first but was stranded.

In the bottom of the second, Dana Connelly singled, was bunted to second, took third on Sam Birling's infield hit, and scored on Jenna Bromen's flare into left field. Elise Barnes' two-out, two-run double to right made it 3-0 Tommies. Barry's single to shortstop scored Barnes to make it 4-0. Chase Shortly tripled to right field to score another run, and she came home on a wild pitch for the sixth run.

In the Knights' third inning, Maris Daleo and Luccesi had two-out singles, but Katie Eppard lined out to shortstop.

St. Thomas added two runs in the third. Sammy Hogan had a one-out double and Jenna Bromen slugged a two-out, two-run home run to left.

Carleton scored three in the top of the fifth inning to extend the game on a single, walk fielder's choice that loaded the bases, an infield ground out to score one and Nataslie Maurice's two-run single just over third base.

The Toms added one run in the sixth inning on Elise Barnes double and a single by Barry.

The Knights had 10 hits and left 10 on base including the bases loaded in the seventh. UST had 14 hits with all nine starters with at least one each.
