CCNY Remains Unbeaten With Four-Set Triumph Over Mount Ida

NEW YORK, N.Y. --  Sophomore Carlos Maldonado Madrid registered 17 kills and nine digs to lead CCNY to a 3-1 non-league college men's volleyball victory over Mount Ida by game scores of 25-18, 16-25, 25-22 and 25-23 in a match played Friday evening at Nat Holman Gymnasium.


Senior David Cham (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 10 digs, eight kills and five service aces as the host Beavers remained unbeaten at 5-0 on the season, while sophomore Seth Diaz (Long Branch, N.J.) added six kills and a pair of block solos for the hosts.  Freshman Hei Chun Chan chipped in with 30 set assists on the night for CCNY, which received six digs from sophomore Jonathan Liao (Jackson Heights, N.Y.).


Junior Brett Southworth (Orange, Conn.) notched 17 kills and seven digs in the setback for the visiting Mustangs, who saw their four-match winning streak come to an end in falling to 4-3 on the year.  Freshman Isaac Reed (Keene, N.H.) added six kills and seven digs for Mount Ida, which received 10 digs, five kills and a pair of blocks from junior Nate Gyampo (Providence, R.I.).  Sophomore Andre Foster (Davis, Calif.) and freshman Tyler Dorfman (West Hartford, Conn.) combined for seven kills and four digs for the visitors, who received 29 set assists and seven digs from sophomore Kevin Keohane (Jefferson, N.J.).


Mount Ida heads to Langhorne, Pa. on Saturday afternoon for a non-league tri-match with Eastern Mennonite and host Cairn that begins at Noon, while CCNY travels across town on Thursday evening for a non-league outing with Yeshiva beginning at 8:00 p.m.
