Southworth, Gyampo Lead Mount Ida To Non-League Sweep At Pine Manor

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. --  Juniors Brett Southworth (Orange, Conn.) and Nate Gyampo (Providence, R.I.) combined for 19 kills, eight digs and five service aces to lead Mount Ida to a 3-0 college men's volleyball victory over Pine Manor by game scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-16 in a non-league match played Thursday evening on Brunelli Court.


Southworth posted 10 kills, three digs and three service aces to help the visiting Mustangs (4-2) extend their winning streak to four straight, while Gyampo added nine kills, five digs and a pair of service aces in the triumph.  Sophomore Andre Foster (Davis, Calif.) collected seven kills and a pair of digs on the night for Mount Ida, which received 27 set assists and five service aces from sophomore Kevin Keohane (Jefferson, N.J.) to go with four digs from freshman Isaac Reed (Keene, N.H.).


Sophomore Dion Johnson (Las Vegas, Nev.) notched nine kills, four digs and four service aces in the setback for the host Gators (0-3), who received three kills and three digs from sophomore Derick Speight (Clinton, Md.).  Sophomore Nathan Matthews (Vinton, Va.) added 12 set assists, three kills, three digs and a pair of service aces for Pine Manor, which received nine digs from senior Oscar Estrada (North Port, Fla.).


Mount Ida travels to New York City on Friday evening to take on CCNY in a non-league match beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Pine Manor heads to Nashua, N.H. on Saturday afternoon to take on Wells and host Rivier in a non-league tri-match that begins at 1:00 p.m.
