BOSTON, Mass. - Senior Katie Frade (Dartmouth, Mass.) set a new Wheelock record for points in a game in the Wheelock Wildcats (2-7, 1-0) New England Collegiate Conference opener against Bay Path University (0-9, 0-2). Frade recorded 24 total shots and 13 shots on goal in her nine point effort that included four goals and two assists.
How It Happened: The scored remained tied for the first ten minutes of play until Frade scored her first goal of the record breaking day on a pass sent by sophomore Melanie Newburg (Raynman, Mass.). Frade was able to send to ball into the back of the net from the right side. Sixteen minutes later, Frade scored again off a deflected shot by freshman Kat Bettencourt (Peabody, Mass.). The Wildcats went into halftime leading 2-0.
The Wildcats would be on the offensive from the start of the second half with eight shots in the first ten minutes of play. In the 52nd minute of play, Alexah Mellis (East Longmeadow, Mass.) received a pass from Frade for a goal. Mellis scored her first goal of the season to go along with two assists on the day.
Frade recorded her second assist on the day with a pass to Newburg in the 59th minute of play. Frade would then go on to score the remaining two goals of the game unassisted. The Wildcats would go onto win with a final score of 6-0.
The Bay Path goalie Bethany Rogers had a tremendous game turning away 19 shots on goal. Wheelock led in shots 43-6 for the game.
Who Stood Out: Katie Frade broke her own record with 10 points from four goals and two assists. She now has eight goals in seven games played.
What It Means: The Wildcats move to 1-0 in NECC play and get their second win of the season.
