Tessier honored for academic prowess

DUDLEY, Mass. – Nichols College senior P.J. Tessier (Mirror Lake, N.H.) has been named to the 2017 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Academic All-New England Team.

Tessier is a finance major who graduated with the designations of Summa Cum Laude and Delta Mu Delta (International Honor Society in Business). He is also a two-time designation of Chi Alpha Sigma. Earlier this month, Tessier received the Major Charles T. Hopkins Award for Study, Sports and Spirit at the college's Senior Student-Athlete Brunch.

On the field, Tessier helped the Bison to one of the best seasons in program history in 2017. In 17 games this spring, he recorded 27 points on 18 goals and nine assists, and also collected 14 ground balls. On Senior Day, he collected a game-high six points on four goals and two assists in a win over Gordon – the program's first in 13 years. Earlier in the season, Tessier scored four goals in a win over UMass Boston and also picked up a hat trick against Keene State.

"I am extremely proud of P.J. for receiving this honor," said Nichols head coach Eric Gobiel. "He has been one of our hardest workers both on and off the field since joining our program two years ago. His dedication to his studies have always been a top priority and it has shown with the great success he has had in the classroom. It has been a pleasure to coach P.J. and I know he will be wildly successful in the years to come."

Tessier was one of eight Commonwealth Coast Conference student-athletes named to the team, joining four from UNE and one each from Curry, Roger Williams, and Salve Regina.
