Pacific, Whitman battled to 1-1 tie

FOREST GROVE, Ore.--Whitman and Pacific battled for 110 minutes to a 1-1 tie on Sunday afternoon at Hanson Stadium in men's Northwest Conference soccer.

The Boxers and Missionaries had to settle for the deadlock after two overtimes in the conference match that leaves the Boxers at 3-7-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the NWC. Whitman is now 1-7-1 and is also 1-4-1 in league action.

Josh Napoles got Pacific on the board first in the 37th minute and the Boxers took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. But the Missionaries got the point back at 59:08 on Gabe Jacobsen's score, which would turn out to be the final score on a sunny day.

Whitman placed six shots on goal, while Boxer goalkeeper Leyton Thommasenhad five saves for the home team. Pacific had six shots, including three on goal.

Next action for the men's soccer team will be next Saturday at home against George Fox (7 p.m.).
