No. 5 Whitworth blanks Boxers, 3-0

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — No. 5 nationally ranked Whitworth remained unbeaten on Friday night with a 3-0 victory over Pacific in men's soccer action under the lights at Hanson Stadium.

The Pirates moved to 9-0 on the season and to 5-0 in the Northwest Conference. The Boxers dropped to 3-7 overall and to 1-4 in conference action.

The visitors scored in the 18th minute on Karl Muelheins eight goal of the season. But that would be the only score of the first 45 minutes as Pacific's defense allowed only four Pirate shots in the first half.

In fact, Whitworth had only five shots on goal the entire match, but two of those found the net in the second half. Jonah Snyder scored at the 63:02 mark and Sam McKay added the final score in the 79th minute for the unblemished Pirates.

Pacific had five shots in the second half, including three on goal. But Timmy Costa recorded the shutout for WU and had three saves.

Pacific will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, hosting Whitman at 2:30 p.m.
