RIC Drops Two at Keene State Tri-Match

Keene, N.H.-The Rhode Island College women's volleyball team dropped their Little East Conference opener to Keene State, 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-21) and followed that with a 3-1 setback vs. Westfield State to finish a tri-match hosted by KSC on Saturday afternoon.

 

In the opening match played at Spaulding Gymnasium, Keene State (5-4, 1-0 LEC) cruised to victory behind senior setter Laurie Whalen's (Nyantic, CT) 44 assists. Senior outside hitters Kristen Girard (Red Hook, NY) and Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack, NH) each finished with a match-high 11 kills for the Owls.

 

On the other end, RIC (2-6, 0-1 LEC) received an outstanding performance from freshman outside hitter Marina Stoermer (Seattle, WA), who came back after missing the last three matches with an injury. Stoermer finished with eight kills and a team-high nine digs, while junior outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) notched eight kills as well. Junior setter Jessica Ho (Providence, RI) led the Anchorwomen with 22 assists.

 

The second match of the day for RIC didn't go the Anchorwomen's way either, as Westfield State (3-8) posted a 3-1 win. Boyer and sophomore middle hitter Amanda Cabral (Riverside, RI) each notched 16 kills, while senior right side hitter Rachel Perry (Swansea, MA) landed nine winners against the Owls.

 

Ho once again tallied 22 assists for RIC and Boyer finished with a team-high nine digs.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College returns home to The Murray Center after a 19-day layoff to face Lasell on Tuesday, Sept. 20 (7 p.m.).
