Keene, N.H.-The Rhode Island College women's volleyball team dropped their Little East Conference opener to Keene State, 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-21) and followed that with a 3-1 setback vs. Westfield State to finish a tri-match hosted by KSC on Saturday afternoon. |

In the opening match played at Spaulding Gymnasium, Keene State (5-4, 1-0 LEC) cruised to victory behind senior setter Laurie Whalen's (Nyantic, CT) 44 assists. Senior outside hitters Kristen Girard (Red Hook, NY) and Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack, NH) each finished with a match-high 11 kills for the Owls. |

On the other end, RIC (2-6, 0-1 LEC) received an outstanding performance from freshman outside hitter Marina Stoermer (Seattle, WA), who came back after missing the last three matches with an injury. Stoermer finished with eight kills and a team-high nine digs, while junior outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) notched eight kills as well. Junior setter Jessica Ho (Providence, RI) led the Anchorwomen with 22 assists. |

The second match of the day for RIC didn't go the Anchorwomen's way either, as Westfield State (3-8) posted a 3-1 win. Boyer and sophomore middle hitter Amanda Cabral (Riverside, RI) each notched 16 kills, while senior right side hitter Rachel Perry (Swansea, MA) landed nine winners against the Owls. |

Ho once again tallied 22 assists for RIC and Boyer finished with a team-high nine digs. |

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College returns home to The Murray Center after a 19-day layoff to face Lasell on Tuesday, Sept. 20 (7 p.m.). |
