Field hockey falls to Bellarmine in Stick it to Cancer Game

Bellarmine proved to be too much for Centre's field hockey team Wednesday as the Colonels fell 4-1 to the Knights at Farris Stadium in the team's Stick it to Cancer Game.

The event brought out a good crowd, and served as a fundraiser for the National Foundation for Cancer Research, but aside from those events the Colonels' faithful didn't have much to cheer about. After an early Bellarmine goal by Lauren Schmeing, Centre's Erin Bacon (Williamsburg, Va.) answered withher second goal of the year off an assist from Leah Oberst (Louisville, Ky.), but it would be the only score of the night for the Colonels.

Just minutes later, Bellarmine's Dezirae Hall put the Knights back in front for good. A Brittany Raque goal on an assist from Ellen West gave Bellarmine a 3-1 halftime lead, and Moriah Facktor assisted Connor Galle on a second half goal to arrive at the final total.

Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) saved 10 shots in goal for Centre, and was relieved late by Cece Lindsey (Louisville, Ky.) who made six stops. Bellarmine's Megan Martiny was credited with the win, and made eights saves before giving way to Katie Lange, who had four.

With the loss, the Colonels drop to 2-2 on the season, and will be back in action on the road Saturday at Denison at 11 a.m.
