SCRANTON, Pa.—Behind the efforts of all-tournament selections Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute) and Jenell McFadden (Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy), The University of Scranton downed Ramapo College and Marywood today to finish second at the Scranton Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Long Center.
McFadden came off the bench in the Royals' come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Ramapo and contributed 11 kills and seven digs and Crilly finished with season highs of 18 kills and 16 digs to record the first 'double-double' of her career. Junior defensive specialist Marissa Every (East Norriton, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) contributed a season-high 19 digs and junior setter Emily Keim (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) had 26 assists.
Against Marywood, a 3-0 victory, Crilly led the way again with 10 kills and six digs and McFadden had eight kills and 12 digs. Keim and junior setter Juli Woods (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) combined for 24 of Scranton's 29 assists.
Clarkson University, which defeated Marywood, 3-0, and Centenary, 3-0, today won the team title with a 4-0 record. The Pacers were third (2-2), followed by Ramapo (1-3), and Centenary College (0-4). Sara Artus of Clarkson University was named the tournament's most valuable player (MVP). Joining her on the all-tournament team were Lani Durio of Clarkson, Jelena Markovic of Centenary College, Alyssa Hartranft of Marywood, Michelle Ferrari of Ramapo, Crilly, and McFadden.
Every, who had 30 digs in two matches, moved ahead of Meaghan Curtin (1198, 2004, 2006-2007) into eighth place on the Royals' all-time list with 1,211 digs.
The Royals will return to action this Tuesday, September 13, against Oneonta State University in Oneonta, New York, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
