Tufts scored in four of the first five innings and cruised to a 6-0 win over the Texas-Tyler Patriots. Out hit by Texas-Tyler, the Jumbos took advantage of three Patriot errors.
The number three was lucky for the Luther Norse. In the third inning, Kelsey Weindruch, batting third in the order and wearing number three, hit a three-run home run to give the Norse a 3-1 lead. Luther added five more in the sixth to defeat Anderson 8-1 and move into a winners bracket game with Cortland on Saturday.
A double by Lucia Meola and a scarifice fly by Cassie Kardias gave Cortland State a 2-1 win in the opening game of the championship. "It was great to show up and truly put it on the field," said Cortland head coach Julie Lenhart. "It does not get any better than this."
The D-III Softball Championship continues tomorrow starting with Salisbury and Anderson leading off a full schedule of four games.
