Gettysburg Tops Face-Off Yearbook Rankings

BALTIMORE – Gettysburg College grabbed the top spot in the Face-Off Yearbook Division III rankings compiled by Inside Lacrosse and released this week.
Gettysburg is the favorite heading into the 2018 campaign after winning its second NCAA Division III championship this past spring. The Bullets posted a 21-3 overall record and ran through the national playoffs, culminating in an epic 6-5 victory over The College of New Jersey in the title game. The team is poised to return all but five players, including All-American defender Cassie Smith (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) and NCAA Tournament MVP Steph Colson (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley).
The remainder of the preseason poll featured No. 2 TCNJ, No. 3 Washington & Lee University, No. 4 Trinity College, No. 5 William Smith College, No. 6 Middlebury College, No. 7 Franklin & Marshall College, No. 8 York (Pa.) College, No. 9 Salisbury University, and No. 10 Colby College.
Gettysburg defeated TCNJ, Washington & Lee, Trinity, Franklin & Marshall, York and Salisbury last season. The Bullets are scheduled to face TCNJ, Washington & Lee, Franklin & Marshall, and York in 2018.
Head Coach Carol Cantele enters her 26th season at Gettysburg's helm. Cantele is 378-105 (.783) with the Bullets and has led the team to 10 Centennial Conference titles and 16 consecutive NCAA appearances. She is also one of just four NCAA coaches to eclipse 400 career wins and owns a mark of 402-128 (.758) over 29 seasons.
Gettysburg opens the regular season at Messiah College on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 4 p.m.
