Bison, Rams split non-conference DH

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The Nichols College softball team split its doubleheader at Framingham State Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.
Game One: Nichols 3, Framingham St. 0
Junior Kendall Meehan (Danvers, Mass.) went 3-for-4 and sophomore Callie Andrews (Southbridge, Mass.), along with freshmen Jessica Kuelling (Gales Ferry, Conn.) and Hayley Novia (Leicester, Mass.), each recorded an RBI single for the Bison.
Kuelling singled home senior Christina Drake (Lebanon, N.H.) in the third to give Nichols a 1-0 lead. Novia plated classmate Amanda Alioto (Patchogue, N.Y.) in the sixth to double the lead before Andrews brought in senior Meghan Sears (Tewksbury, Mass.) with a single to right later in the frame.
Freshman Alexis Ferris (Holyoke, Mass.) fanned eight in six innings of work to earn her eighth win of the season.
Game Two: Framingham St. 5, Nichols 3
The Bison grabbed an early 2-0 lead behind RBI singles from Drake and Kuelling in the third before the Rams scored twice in the bottom half of the frame to tie the game. In the fifth, junior Anna Dziok (Southampton, Mass.) launched a three-run home run over the left field wall to put the Rams ahead for the first time at 5-2. Nichols senior Jade Palladino (Lynnfield, Mass.) singled in the sixth to plate Andrews and make it 5-3.
Sears got the start in the circle for Nichols and surrendered seven hits and five runs (three earned) over six. She walked two and did not walk a batter. Junior Jessica Pietersen (Norton, Mass.) picked up the win for the Rams, allowed seven hits and three runs with one walk and four K's in seven innings of work.

Today's games marked the 13th and 14th all-time meetings between Nichols College and Framingham State University. The Bison lead, 9-6.
