OSWEGO, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (12-7, 0-4 SUNYAC) fell to SUNY Oneonta (7-11, 3-1 SUNYAC) during the first round of SUNYAC Pool Play at Oswego State on Friday night.
The Bears took the first two sets 25-22 and 25-19, but were defeated over the next three sets with scores of 19-25, 21-25 and 9-15. Junior outside hitter Kelsey Tompkins (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) led Potsdam's offense with 15 kills and three blocks, while junior opposite Rachel Topf (Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak) finished with 14 kills and 14 digs. Freshman outside hitter Gabrielle Scott (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) and junior outside hitter Kelsea Healis (Rohnert Park, Calif./Rancho Cotate) added 11 and six kills, respectively. Scott tacked on four aces and 11 digs and Healis finished with 17 digs to lead the defense. Senior defensive specialist Slone Campbell (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) tied Healis with the game high 17 digs, while sophomore setter Brianna Rodda (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) tallied another 38 assists with 12 digs.
Potsdam will finish out the pool play tomorrow when the Bears take on Buffalo State at 12:30 p.m. and Cortland at 3 p.m.
