Hawks top Bears in SUNYAC opener

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (9-2, 0-1) fell to SUNY New Paltz (7-7, 1-0) in the opener of SUNYAC Pool Play at Maxcy Field House on Friday night.
 
The Bears fell behind early in set one before falling 25-15. The Hawks fought off Potsdam in set two 25-21 before rallying for a 25-19 win in set three to close out the win.

Juniors Kelsea Healis (Rohnert Park, Calif./Rancho Cotate) and Rachel Topf (Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak) led the Bears' offense with eight and seven kills, respectively. Healis also added eight digs. Freshman outside hitter Gabrielle Scott (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) registered five kills and nine digs. Senior libero Sloane Campbell (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) contributed 13 digs and sophomore setter Brianna Rodda (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) finished with 20 assists.
 
The Bears close out the weekend tomorrow with a 10 a.m. match against Plattsburgh and a 3 p.m. meeting with Geneseo.
