Kawada Scores Equalizer in Tie at PLU

TACOMA, Wash. — Tod Kawada scored the equalizer in the 81st minute as the Occidental men's soccer team esaped Pacific Lutheran (WA) with a 1-1 tie in double overtime.

Kawada, a First Team All-SCIAC selection in 2014 who missed most of last season with a foot injury, is up to two goals in three games already this season.

Diego Aceves put PLU up 1-0 in the 26th minute on a pass from Eddie Na.

The Tigers outshot PLU 20-10, but converted just the one time.

Oxy's record goes to 1-1-1 on the season.

The Tigers were playing the second of two games in Washington against Northwest Conference competition.

Oxy begins SCIAC play at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Tigers were picked to finish third in the conference by the SCIAC coaches.
