SJAASTAD’S HEADER GIVES ROWAN MEN’S SOCCER A 1-0 VICTORY OVER #3 SUNY ONEONTA IN THE GILMORE ALUMNI CLASSIC

GLASSBORO, NJ – Rowan University back Will Sjaastad scored on a header, giving the men's soccer team a 1-0 win over #3 SUNY Oneonta in the final game of the Gilmore Alumni Classic on Monday.

 

Sjaastad (so. Allentown, NJ/Allentown) deflected in a free kick hit by midfielder Jake Conners (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) with 8:59 remaining. Conners struck the ball from near midfield. Rowan played the final 46:16 a man down after a red card was issued.

 

The Profs have a record of 3-0 and the Red Dragons have a mark of 0-2. This is the first time since 2010 that Rowan has started the season 3-0. Profs' goalie Kyle Dennis (so. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) made two saves. SUNY Oneonta goalie Ryan Wilson (fr. Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) stopped four shots.

 

In other tournament games, Rowan had a 2-0 victory against Washington and Lee University on Saturday, Sept. 3 and Washington and Lee won 3-2 over SUNY Oneonta on Sunday, Sept. 4.

 

Rowan returns to action on Friday, Sept. 9 at the College of Staten Island at 2 p.m.
