New Paltz Women’s Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to Sage in Day One of Michelle Vargas-Robin Tournament

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team fell to The Sage Colleges, 1-0, on Friday afternoon in the first day of the fourth-annual Michelle Vargas-Robin Tournament.
The Hawks fall to 0-2 and will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 4 against No. 23 Ithaca College in a 12 p.m. contest. Sage improves to 2-0 on the season and will play Ithaca tomorrow at 12 p.m. on the South Turf Field.
After a scoreless first half, New Paltz almost took the lead in the 67th minute as senior forward Skye Kaler (Charlton, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) launched the ball from the far right side but would miss its target as the ball hit the cross bar and bounced out of the box. 
Sage would eventually grab the upperhand in the 78th minute as senior forward Taylor Lynch dribbled the ball inside the box off a feed from senior midfielder/defender Shelby Ruppenthal to score the Gators' only goal, sealing the final 1-0 win.
Both teams tallied seven shots apiece for the game while New Paltz led 6-2 in corner kicks. 
Junior defender Monica Rouse (Amsterdam, N.Y./Amsterdam) recorded three shots with two on goal while Kaler tallied two shots with one on goal. 
Sophomore forward Samantha Trimblett led the Gators with three shots, including one on goal, while Lynch, senior midfielder Shelby Sarraino, sophomore midfielder Jordyn Logan, and sophomore midfielder Ariannah Logan recorded one shot apiece.
Freshman goalkeeper Angela Ratka (Farmington, N.Y./Victor) made one save in goal for the Hawks while her Sage counterpart, freshman goalkeeper Cassy Robataille, made four stops.
