LEXINGTON, KY. -- Transylvania University and nationally ranked Wittenberg University showed their strength in volleyball victories over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday.
Transylvania topped Rose-Hulman 25-14, 25-22, 25-18 after finishing second in the HCAC regular season and conference tournament standings last season. Wittenberg captured a 25-19, 25-13, 25-13 victory in the nightcap.
Against Transylvania, freshman Emily McLendon (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) and sophomore Sarah Jensen (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) had eight kills each. Freshman Morgan Dreyer (Batesville) added 16 assists, and McLendon led the blocking effort with two.
In the Wittenberg match, senior Casey Levitt (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) had a team-high nine kills. Dreyer added 16 assists, and Jensen had 11 digs to lead the Engineers.
Rose-Hulman stands 9-11 on the season and 0-2 in HCAC play after facing the top two teams in the 2012 league standings this week. The Fightin' Engineers return to the court on next Saturday with a 5 p.m. match against Bluffton.
