Volleyball Splits Two Matches in Ohio to Open Season
WESTERVILLE, OHIO -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opened the 2013 volleyball season with a split of two matches at Otterbein University on Friday.
In the opening match, nationally ranked Otterbein earned a 25-12, 25-13, 25-12 victory over the Fightin' Engineers. Rose-Hulman bounced back to top Kenyon College 25-10, 25-15, 25-14 in the nightcap.
In the Otterbein match, sophomore Sarah Jensen (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) led the Fightin' Engineers with six kills. Freshman Morgan Dreyer (Batesville) had a team-high 10 assists, and senior Casey Levitt (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) paced Rose-Hulman with nine digs.
Against Kenyon, Jensen again led the offensive effort with 12 kills and a .579 hitting percentage. Levitt contributed eight kills, and freshman Katie Ward (Marengo, Ill.) pitched in with seven kills. Dreyer helped facilitate the offense with 19 assists.
Defensively, Levitt led the Engineers with 12 digs and senior Kate Dangel (Upper Arlington, Ohio) added 11. Three players added two blocks each.
Rose-Hulman stands 1-1 on the season and returns to action against Denison and Capital in Columbus on Saturday.
