Volleyball Battles No. 25 CMS Before Falling in California
CLAREMONT, CALIF. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology battled No. 25 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps before falling 18-25, 26-28, 19-25 in the opening match of the team's volleyball trip to Southern California.
The Fightin' Engineers put the nationally ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps squad on watch during a back and forth second set before narrowly falling. Senior Casey Levitt (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) led the Engineers with seven kills during a return home.
Freshman Morgan Dreyer (Batesville) added six kills and 11 assists. Sophomore Sarah Jensen (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) led the squad with 14 assists, six block assists and two service aces.
Senior Kate Dangel (Upper Arlington, Ohio) provided depth with 11 digs, and senior Catherine Fiutem (Harrison, Ohio/Oldenburg Academy) joined freshman Emily McLendon (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) with four block assists.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps improved to 18-3 on the season, while Rose-Hulman stands 11-14. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Pomona-Pitzer for matches against the host squad and No. 3 ranked Cal Lutheran on Saturday.
