SCRANTON, Pa.—The Catholic University women's lacrosse team showed why it rules the roost in the Landmark Conference Saturday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Field.
The four-time defending champion and currently 15th-ranked Cardinals bolted out to an 14-2 halftime lead and cruised to an 18-5 victory.
Senior midfielder Mallory Vogel (Bel-Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) led Catholic, now 12-5 overall and 4-0 in the Landmark Conference with six goals and an assist and senior midfielder Mary Swarthout (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) finished with four goals.
Catholic, which held a 33-13 advantage in shots, also received two goals and four assists from senior midfielder Mary Robinson (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin) and two goals apiece from junior attacker Katie Miller (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) and sophomore midfielder Theresa Ciletti (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Preparatory).
Senior Kaela Mahon (Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ/Saint Rose), playing in her final home game at Fitzpatrick Field, led the Royals, now 11-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference, with two goals. Scranton also received a goal apiece from freshman midfielders Emily Goss (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) and Emily Mulligan (Sloatsburg, NY/Suffern) and junior midfielder Deanna Giorno (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South).
The two teams will meet again this Wednesday, May 2, in the semifinals of the Landmark Conference tournament in Washington, DC, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
