Sanchez Earns All-America Honor
University of Wisconsin-Whitewater senior outside hitter Sofia Sanchez (Janesville/Craig) has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Honorable Mention All-America Team.
Sanchez led the Warhawks in kills (403) and kills per game (3.39), and was second on the team in service aces (32). She recorded 17 double doubles (kills and digs) , and was credited with ten or more kills in Whitewater's last eight matches as UW-W went into tournament play.
Sanchez concluded her career ninth in career kills (1,251) in the UW-W record book, with the third best hitting/attack percentage all-time (.355). She had ten or more kills in 69 matches for fifth place on the school's all-time list in that category.
Sanchez led UW-Whitewater to a share of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship, and to the title of the WIAC postseason tournament. The Warhawks earned a berth in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III tournament for the twentieth consecutive year, finishing the season with a 26-8 record.
Earlier this month Sanchez was named All-WIAC First Team for the second time.
UW-W volleyball players have collected 58 All-America honors in the last twenty-four years.
