With 20 seconds left in regulation, sophomore Courtney Kuiper (Louisville, Ky.) scored to give the Centre College field hockey team a 2-1 win over Hendrix College Saturday, Nov. 5 in Memphis, Tenn.
The Colonels, which fell to the Warriors 4-0 a week earlier, improve to 11-7 overall and advance to the 2011 SCAC Tournament Championship match Sunday.
Junior Sarah Jessee (Louisville, Ky.) put Centre ahead 1-0 when she hit the back of the cage at the 18:56 mark in the first period.
Lauren Thorburg tied the match at one apiece with a goal nine minutes into the second half.
The score remained that way until Kuiper scored the game-winner at the 69:40 mark for the 2-1 victory.
Centre controlled the match with a 12-2 advantage in shots and an 8-6 edge in penalty corners. Senior Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) made one save in goal for the Colonels.
Third-seeded Centre will next play top-seeded Rhodes Sunday, Nov. 6. Start time for the tournament championship match is set for 11 a.m. CST.
