  1. Ralph Turner Says:

My only concern in the West is whether the Committee will penalize the loser of the NWC playoff game and knock them deeper into the standings.

    West Region

West Region Overall Record In-Region Record
    1. Pomona-Pitzer 35-5 27-3 SCIAC Pool A
    2. Texas-Tyler 38-10 35-9 ASC Pool A
    3. Cal Lutheran 31-9 27-6 SCIAC Pool C
    4. Pacific Lutheran 31-8 29-8 NWC Co-champ
    5. George Fox 32-9 29-6 NWC Co-champ
    6. Texas-Dallas 8-18 27-14 ASC tourney semi-finalist

Cal Lutheran looks like it is in.

PLU/GFU loser is on the bubble.

  2. Ralph Turner Says:

South Region Overall Record In-Region Record
    1. Salisbury 36—6 29-6 Pool B
    2. Millsaps 32-8 29-7 SCAC Pool C
    3. Shenandoah 33-8 27-7 USA South Pool C
    4. North Carolina Wesleyan 27-19 25-15 USA South Pool A
    5. Christopher Newport 24-11-2 20-11-1 USA South Pool C

Washington and Lee is the ODAC Pool A.

Hendrix (West Region) is the Pool A bid from the SCAC, a multi-region conference.

  3. BigPoppa Says:

As predicted, no Mississippi College to be found on the ranking.

  4. dixon Says:

    West Region is looking like:

Pomona Pitzer, Cal Lutheran, Chapman, Texas-Tyler, Pacific Lutheran, George Fox.

Maybe Hendrix and Texas-Dallas if they want a 8 team regional

  5. Ralph Turner Says:

Jim, I am thinking the same thing, and we have accounted for 2 of the 13 Pool C bids to give.

I think UTD is at the table when the 13th bid is given. UTD stays home.

  6. bigchoc Says:

Why is Miss College not ranked? This is unbelievable….
MC beat UTD 3 out of 4 times, beat Tyler 4 out of 6 times and was ASC tour runner-up, and has a 30-16 record. Someone please explain……

  7. Ralph Turner Says:

    New York Region
    1. Cortland State 29-12 24-8 SUNYAC Pool A
    2. RPI 31-9 29-8 LL Pool A
    3. Ithaca 28-7 22-4 E8 Pool B
    4. Rochester 30-11 27-11 LL Pool C
    5. Farmingdale State 25-13 24-10 SKY Pool A
    6. Fredonia State 25-10 16-10 SUNYAC Pool C

Rochester looks to be on the bubble. LL Tourney is this weekend. There a lots of teams with fewer than 13 losses in Pool C. I think that RPI can get a Pool C bid, and Rochester must win the tourney.

  8. njacjunky Says:

Ralph, you seem to know your stuff?

TCNJ is up to number 5 in the mid-atlantic region. Do you think they get in if they get swept by William Paterson and don’t take the NJAC title, or do you feel they need to win a game and get the pool A bid?

  9. Ralph Turner Says:

    Midwest Region
    1. St. Thomas 28-9 21-8 MIAC Pool A
    2. St. Scholastica 31-4 22-3 UMAC Pool B
    3. St. Olaf 25-11 20-8 MIAC Pool C
    4. UW-Stevens Point 27-13 25-12 WIAC Pool A
    5. Concordia (Ill.) 29-13 27-7 NATHC Pool A
    6. UW-Oshkosh 23-15 22-14 WIAC Pool C

Might the WIAC be shut out of an at-large bid?

All teams have tourneys this weekend.

  10. Ralph Turner Says:

    Central Region
    1. Carthage 29-5 25-2
    2. St. Norbert 21-11 19-10
    3. Illinois Wesleyan 23-13 21-12
    4. Coe 21-17 20-12
    5. Loras 25-12 2011
    6. Luther 27-11 25-11

IIAC has a 6-team Double Elimination tourney. Loras is the #1 seed (15-7 in conference.) Luther is #2 seed (15-7). Coe #3 14-8.

St Norbert is #1-North seed. Tourney is 4-team DE on May 8-9.

    CCIW tourney is May 7-9.

  11. Ralph Turner Says:

    Mideast Region
    1. Wooster 33-8 27-7 NCAC Pool A
    2. Heidelberg 33-7 29-6 OAC Pool A
    3. Otterbein 22-15 18-8 OAC Pool C
    4. Marietta 26-12 22-11 OAC Pool C
    5. Washington and Jefferson 28-11 23-8 Pres AC Pool A
    6. Adrian 27-9 24-4 Clinched MIAA
    7. Franklin 28-9 22-8 HCAC Pool A

  12. MartyandJoe Says:

    Ralph,

How do you feel about Penn-St Behrend? Could they get a Pool C if they Fall short in the AMCC Tourney? I would guess that Frostburg has to win it to get in.

Which regions do you think will be 8 team regions?

  13. Ralph Turner Says:

    Mid-Atlantic Region
    1. Kean 33-9 29-6 NJAC Pool A
    2. Montclair State 25-15 22-8 NJAC Pool C
    3. Keystone 34-4 28-1 CSAC Pool A
    4. Penn State-Behrend 27-7 25-6 AMCC Pool A
    5. The College of New Jersey 23-16-1 21-13-1 NJAC Pool C
    6. Manhattanville 25-16 24-15 MACF *
    7. Wilkes 28-11 26-8 MAC Commonwealth Pool C
    8. Frostburg State 24-13 23-8 AMCC Pool C
    9. William Paterson 24-16 21-14 NJAC Pool C

*Manhattanville plays FDU-Florham on Friday and the winner plays Alvernia on Sat., twice if needed.

E’town clinched the MAC Commonwealth Pool A.
JHU clinched the Centennial Pool A bid.

  14. Ralph Turner Says:

MartyJoe, PSU-Behrend is not looking very good. Two losses really hurts them. Win it all!

My bad, because Kean and Montclair have already been eliminated! WPU must beat TCNJ twice on May 9th to earn the Pool A bid.

    EDITED
    Mid-Atlantic Region
    1. Kean 33-9 29-6 NJAC NOT Pool A Pool C
    2. Montclair State 25-15 22-8 NJAC Pool C

    4. Penn State-Behrend 27-7 25-6 AMCC Pool A
    5. The College of New Jersey 23-16-1 21-13-1 NJAC Pool C
    6. Manhattanville 25-16 24-15 MACF *
    7. Wilkes 28-11 26-8 MAC Commonwealth Pool C
    8. Frostburg State 24-13 23-8 AMCC Pool C
    9. William Paterson 24-16 21-14 NJAC Pool C

*Manhattanville plays FDU-Florham on Friday and the winner plays Alvernia on Sat., twice if needed.

E’town clinched the MAC Commonwealth Pool A.
JHU clinched the Centennial Pool A bid.

  15. Ralph Turner Says:

As for sites with 8-team brackets, I think that they go to New England, Mid-Atlantic and Mideast.

  16. MartyandJoe Says:

    Ralph,

Thanks for the input! Any thoughts on which regions will be 8 team regions?

If you could give a top 15 in Pool C as you see it, that would be awesome.

  17. Ralph Turner Says:

    big choc,

I don’t know. We don’t know the OWP for MissColl.

I think that they are in a log-jam with TLU and UTD. Because we do not see “#7″ and “#8″, we don’t know where MissColl and TLU are.

  18. Ralph Turner Says:

MartyJoe, let me see what happens in the 20-odd tourneys that are occurring this weekend. If we get upsets in only 5 of the 15 conferences represented by ranked seeds playing in tourneys this weekend, then we have a big mess.

  19. voiceofreason Says:

I will tell you why Mississippi is not ranked ahead of UTD. First, if any of the games that they played against each other would have been even at a neutral field UTD beats Mississippi 4 out of 5 times. I am not trying to trash talk Mississippi, they are a good team don’t get me wrong, but if you let the two teams play at a field either during the day or with half way decent lights, Mississippi’s offense can not keep up with UTD’s. UTD lost some games early that if you ask them about they would be utterly embarrassed about. Adrian for example was a game that UTD dominated position by position, but at that point in the year it was not thought to be an important game. I think even if you asked UT-Tyler they would say they were lucky to squeeze a couple of games from UTD. The selection process should try to get the best teams from around the nation into regionals. UTD is a better team than Mississippi, but thats not to say Mississippi is not a better team than others that will get bids. The ASC together, moreless the ASC East I believe is one of the better conferences in the nation and should be given more Pool C bids than anyone if the goal was to get the best teams into the tournament. However, I know this will not be the case and if UTD does not get a bid then the officials who choose who does get bids will be doing D-III baseball a huge injustice by leaving one of the better teams in the nation out of the tourney. Ask Marietta how glad they are that their game with UTD got called because of rain when the score was tied 2-2 and UTD was having their way at the plate.

  20. ducemup6 Says:

    Hey Ralph,

One thing to think about on Behrend is that they are really 28-11. The committee did not get their last couple games this week. They have the same record as Wilkes.

  21. yankee62 Says:

Can someone please explain how Ithaca is ranked 3rd in the NY Region with a better record than both Cortland and RPI?

  22. ducemup6 Says:

And one other thing, what do you think about the chances for wilkes, who was ranked all year but had a couple bad days down the stretch.

  23. Ralph Turner Says:

I get 26-10 in-region for PSU-Behrend. That is not too strong, especially adding 2 losses in the AMCC tourney as you fall to Pool C.

(No Franciscan, no St Scholastica…all other games seem to be in-region, including Wooster.)

  24. Ralph Turner Says:

Wilkes may the fourth or fifth Pool C in the region…

    Too far off the table.

  25. ducemup6 Says:

True but TCNJ or William Paterson will become a Pool A bid, and what is the attraction with Montclair’s 16 losses???

  26. MartyandJoe Says:

    Duce,

I’m guessing it is because Montclair only has 8 of them in the region and that is the primary criteria.

I think they have games remaining so that could change.

  27. ducemup6 Says:

Yeah that was a question I was interested in since that is top in losses of these ranked teams. Thanks for the insight

  28. cdaddy22 Says:

Can someone answer the question how Keystone is 3rd when they have the best record, lead the nation in alot of offensive and deffensice categories, and are in the top ten in the country?

  29. Ralph Turner Says:

    http://www.montclair.edu/athletics/sports/baseball/baseschedule.html

    Look at what Montclair does…

They go south for “spring training” and catch those southern teams in mid-season form.

Back home, they play as tough as schedule as they can.

    Beat Cortland
    Beat ECSU
    Beat RPI twice
Schedule JHU and Ithaca (weather permitting)…

  30. VAbaseball Says:

Any chance Christopher Newport makes the tournament this year? Play a tough schedule but were just 5-5 in conference

  31. ducemup6 Says:

Thanks, I don’t know much about many of the teams I know a couple people on some pool C eligible teams and was wondering what criteria they go by when making the selections

  32. VAbaseball Says:

not sure how this tournament works. can someone give me an explanation?

  33. oshdude Says:

FYI: It appears the games of 5/5 were not included in the MW/C. Those few games include a CUC win over Carthage. I doubt it affects where those two teams are slotted – especially Carthage – just something to keep in mind.

  34. cdaddy22 Says:

Keystone beat cortland twice and beat RPI twice as well and dominated the CSAC and still put up better numbers then montclair in every category if they could have had a harder scedule im sure they would as well not to mention their 9 in the d3 polls and 4th in the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball Division III poll. Both polls take into consideration strenght of scedule

  35. cdaddy22 Says:

Now im not saying Montclair isnt a good baseball team, they deserve to be one of the top seeds but not in front of Keystone.

  36. BenS Says:

How can Keystone be knocked back a spot after they have won 22 in a row. The only losses they have suffered this season came at the hands of Kean (MA #1), Suffolk (NE #5), Webster (SLIAC #1 Seed), and a loss to Edgewood College. They are undefeated at home, in the conference, and only one loss in region (Kean 9-4). I don’t care who Montclair plays, they lost 7 more times than Keystone in region. Keystone also went South for spring training.

  37. BenS Says:

Note: Keystone also beat Cortland twice and RPI.

  38. Missdad Says:

Mississippi College won the East half of the conference and beat UTD Dallas 3 out of 4 times this year, and beat UTT twice on their field and once in the tournament. MC was runner up in the tourney – how do they not get ranked? They should get a bid!

  39. Stan Says:

ducemup6, wilkes ran into some bad days all year when they played a good team. they had no business being ranked. I mean they didnt even put up a fight. No hit by Alvernia in a 11-0 game and then beaten by Manhattanville 10-2 right after. Why would you even think they should get a pool C bid. Amazing how poor an offense can be when you take them off their home field where their fences are 250ft to left.

  40. joebb6 Says:

Stan, wilkes had a couple bad games like most teams do. Before you say they are a poor offense on the road you better check the stats. Wilkes scored 230 runs away from home in 24 games, ave of 9.58/game. Scored 136 runs at home in 15 games, ave of 9.07/game. Averaged 1.0 HR/game at home and .88/game away. There are games good pitching stops good hitting. FDU went 3-0 vs Manhattanville. Wilkes went 7-2 vs Kings, FDU, DeSales, and Alvernia.

  41. Stan Says:

So thats even worse then, they should be averaging at least 15 runs a game at home. Most teams in their conference would. Not hard to put up runs on the road when you are playing a majority of teams that are under .500

  42. Stan Says:

Hitting dominates the sport at this level. you tell me how many teams in the regional rankings have been no hit this year or even close????

  43. tcwms Says:

What about the New England breakdown, Ralph? We’d appreciate it if you don’t mind.

  44. Ralph Turner Says:

    tcwms? or tc/wms?

    Doesn’t that sum it up?

The LEC and the NESCAC are still playing. Williams is deep on the bubble. I think that they need to win the tourney to keep playing.

If Keene State takes the LEC, then I think that both ECSU and USM get bids. Therefore, Trinity is on the Pool C bubble, too.

Curry needs to hope that Trinity and either USM or ECSU win the LEC. I wonder if Curry’s record and data are good enough to be the 3rd Pool C out of New England, especially if RPI takes a Pool C bid.

I think that Pool C fans need Trinity to win the NESCAC and either ECSU or USM to win the LEC.

  45. baseball05 Says:

The selection process for regionals in d3 baseball is an absolute joke.

  46. Pat Coleman Says:

I wish we were in a position to do a sanity check on the selection process in baseball like we can in football and men’s and women’s basketball. Unfortunately, in baseball, only the NCAA has possession of the data necessary to calculate OWP and OOWP.

  47. MartyandJoe Says:

    Ralph,

With Clarkson winning the Pool A bid from the Liberty League do you think New York will once again be an 8 team region with teams coming from the Mid-Atlantic and New England to fill it out?

  48. Ralph Turner Says:

    8, yes.
