Trinity (Conn.) and Johns Hopkins had the first rain delay of the championships this evening, and although it was a brief one, the players on each side still found ways to entertain themselves.
One of them was by tossing a ball back and forth between dugouts, playing a long distance game of tic-tac-toe.
Photos below are by Larry Radloff, D3sports.com.

The game gets started, reportedly by Trinity first baseman Kent Graham

I don’t know how others feel, but I think you should do more of this stuff. We have a championship site with scores and stats. We have radio stations for most of the games and video for the later games. This is the thing that no one covers, and there are always stories in the stands, in the dugouts, in the concession stands, in the grounds crew areas, in the umpires’ room, in the host families’ memory banks, etc.
Just an idea. A really good idea, BTW. One that I’m willing to give for free; just someone to bring the games’ sights and sounds that only fans at the game, or in a particular area of the stadium, would know, see or hear. That’s the good/interesting stuff that no one else offers.

Oshdude,
That’s something I wanted to do last year, but I was swamped shooting the whole weekend and we were down a photographer after three games due to a nasty foul ball. Things look like we might have a second writer out next year for this so I would think it’s a strong possibility for the 2009 championship series.
Photos are going online as they become available. Larry Radloff is doing an outstanding job with the editing and juggling shooting games between himself and Ashlee Carmody.

It is all about being in the right place at the right time. Had I not wanted a wide angle shot and fell into their dugout, I never would have gotten it.
Here is a little writeup from the Appleton paper about our editor
