Day 3: Watching in silence

It’s an odd feeling, trying to follow baseball this way. Haven’t been able to get into the NCAA video today. Can’t load Carthage’s audio. Cortland doesn’t have any. And since the Internet is still down in the press box, for a second consecutive day, our eyes and ears in Appleton are muted.

So when I logged in and found that our line score was different from the live stats, I didn’t know what to trust. (Turns out the live stats were wrong. They’ve since been corrected.)

Following baseball in silence is very disconcerting.

But I know others can see the video, so while I re-reboot my machine, share the knowledge. What are we seeing today from Appleton?

  1. Ralph Turner Says:

Cortland 5, Carthage 2. Red Dragons have a runner on first with no outs.

I am very pleased with the video feed. It really good to see these teams playing. Cortland State really looks good today.

I hope that there has been a good viewership.

Now bases loaded with two outs, Cortland’s (bottom of the) 8th.

  2. Ralph Turner Says:

Carthage’s Tyler Yapp gets the third out, 5-unassisted.

Cortland 5, Carthage 2, going to the top of the 9th.

  3. Ralph Turner Says:

Final Score — Cortland St 5, Carthage 2.

  4. Pat Coleman Says:

I got in eventually. Only took three reboots to do it. Can’t say the same for the folks in the press box.

  5. Pat Coleman Says:

Emory getting its licks in against Chapman early. Two runs, four hits already.

  6. Pat Coleman Says:

More runs, more hits, and a pitching change.

  7. Ralph Turner Says:

Emory has found every hole on the Chapman defense that there is.

Luzar is pulled after facing 11 batters in the first 2/3rds of the first inning. Two men are still on base.

Matt Ricatto has 5 starts in 15 appearances in 55 innings. Record is 2-1; ERA is 4.09.

    This is amazing.

  8. Ralph Turner Says:

Emory 7, Chapman 0 going to the bottom of the 1st!

The Emory pitcher can just sit back and throw strikes!

  9. Ralph Turner Says:

Between innings, the camera focused out towards centerfield. The green grass, the cumulus clouds against the blue skies and the flags extended in the breeze made for an idyllic sight.

  10. Ralph Turner Says:

Going to Chapman’s Kurt Yacko, no outs, top of the second, trailing 10-0!

The Chapman backs are against the wall!

  11. Ralph Turner Says:

Yacko gets the strike out caught stealing double play. 11-0 Emory going to the bottom of the second.

There may not be another chance, but after Yacko is the deep bullpen. Cross, Deese, Fraser and Coelet have 15 appearances for 22 innings in 46 games on the season for Chapman.

  12. Radley Says:

A hole in the Chapman Defense? It looks like they arejust using 3 or 4 players…

11-0 after 2 innings! there are still 7 to o… so maybe they willstill mae it interesting

  13. Spence Says:

Not sure why they didn’t start Yacko. I know he’s their starting 3B but there’s no tomorrow. Very poor pitching management that will probably cost Chapman the season.

  14. Ralph Turner Says:

Chapman probably did not start Yacko, because Luzar was the #3 and had started 11 games; Yacko only started 4.

Let Luzar get 7 innings and you still have Luzar to relieve.

I realize that you go with your best pitcher, but even Ricatto started five games this year. Chapman had to win today, go with Drag on Monday for the first game and then go with committee in Monday game #2 and the 2 games on Tuesday.

I like using Yacko in relief (every game that you can) where he is most comfortable. Chapman was going to need Luzar and Ricatto to perform regardless.

  15. baseballbear Says:

Don’t count out the potent bats of the Chapman lineup!

  16. Pat Coleman Says:

They used Yacko in relief each of the first two nights — that’s probably part of why he didn’t start.

Meanwhile, Emory can’t afford to let up. Chapman has four runs in and another runner in scoring position.

  17. Ralph Turner Says:

Augustine’s win over Kitchens last night is looking like the pivotal game of the series.

  18. Ralph Turner Says:

It looks like Yacko is spent. Chapman has Freshman RHP Paul Deese warming in the bullpen. Deese had 7 appearances for 8 innings and ERA 2.25.

  19. Pat Coleman Says:

Kean and UW-Stevens Point trade runs in the first inning of the nightcap.
