The end of a great series of games

Saturday will see the end of eight great series. There were some great games but as the team move deeper into the rotation the stronger teams start to emerge. I am not surprised that any team is still in contention.

Marietta has to be one of the surprise teams. They were on the bubble when playoff teams were selected and made it in as one of the last teams in. They are proving that they intend to defend their title. It has been a long time since anyone has repeated but maybe this is the year.

Every year we see a team who has never made the Championship Round. Will there be two in Kean and Pacific Lutheran? Tough series await both.

Good luck to all the teams still playing. I’ll see eight in Wisconsin.

  9. Just Bill Says:

UW-Oshkosh has scored one run in the 9th to tie St. Thomas 4-4. They are still batting with 2 on and 2 out.

  10. Just Bill Says:

Oshkosh loads the bases with a single, 2 out, tie game.

  11. Just Bill Says:

Force out to end the Titan threat. Tommies and Titans going to the 10th inning tied 4-4.

  12. mwunder Says:

Carthage just punched their ticket by beating Augustana, 5-4.

Congrats to all of the Red Men. They play the winner of the New England region on Friday at 1:00pm.

  13. mideastfan Says:

Marietta has taken a big lead with some help from 4 OWU errors. Heading to the 4th:
    OWU - 2
    MAR - 9

  14. Just Bill Says:

Fadness homered for Oshkosh with two out in the 11th to beat St. Thomas.

Point and Oshkosh just underway. No score after 1. Zimmerman throwing for Point, Bretl for Oshkosh.

  15. Just Bill Says:

Zimmerman is on top of his game against Oshkosh. He’s got 7 K’s in the first three innings.

If Point wins he’d have to be the unanimous regional MVP. Even if Point loses he’d have a shot.

  16. Just Bill Says:

UWSP on the board first. Archambeau doubles and Zimmerman singles him home. 1-0 Point after three.

  17. mideastfan Says:

Marietta will head back to Appleton and have the chance to defend their National Championship. A week ago today they were turning their uniforms in and heading home for the summer, thinking their season was over. Now the boys are on their way to the series once again.

    Way to go Etta Express!!!

    FINAL: Mar 15, Owu 4

  18. JohnMcGraw Says:

Cortland State defeats Ithaca College, 9-4, to advance to their second Division III World Series in the last three years. The Red Dragons won game 12 of the regional, 8-5, to force the winner-take-all championship game. In 1999, Cortland defeated Ithaca twice on the final day to go to the World Series. That was during Cortland’s run of five straight Series appearances under Steve Owens/Joe Brown.

Cortland will play Kean (NJ) next Friday.

    All-Tournament Team

    Marc Montesano, St. John Fisher
    Tim Kiely, Trinity (CT)
    Ben Silvanic, Trinity (CT)
    Eric Ferguson, Ithaca
    Rob Raux, Ithaca
    Anthony Coromato, Cortland State
    Nick DeVito, Cortland State
    George Jweid, Cortland State
    Matt Vitalone, Cortland State
    Mike Zaccardo, Cortland State

Tournament MVP - Dan Maycock, Cortland State

Order of finish…1. Cortland State, 2. Ithaca, 3. Trinity (CT), 4. St. John Fisher, 5. Skidmore, 6. Manhattanville/Westfield State

  20. Just Bill Says:

Byrnes hits a three-run homer for Point in the 6th. 4-0 Pointers still batting in the sixth. 10K’s for Zimmerman.

  21. Just Bill Says:

Point tacks one more in the sixth for a 5-0 lead.

  22. Just Bill Says:

UW-Stevens Point wins the Midwest Regional 6-0 over Oshkosh. After being 1 strike from elimination against Ripon, UWSP is back to Appleton for the second straight year.

  23. mideastfan Says:

Kitchens and DiPietro both throw complete game gems in the West Regional Final, and Chapman comes out on top 1-0.

They will advance to Wis. again, and play Marietta in game one on Friday at 5:30pm EST.

  24. bullpenhero35 Says:

Should be interesting if Keene makes the finals against Eastern again. Eastern’s had their number all year and it will definately make for an interesting final.

  25. mideastfan Says:

A GREAT tournament this year. With still 2 regions to be decided today, it’s already been a classic.

37 games decided by 2 runs or less
    11 extra inning games
    7 shut-outs

The highest scoring game was the first of the tournament (Bridgewater 14, Methodist 21).
The lowest scoring game was one of the last (West Regional Title game: Chapman 1. PLU 0).

Here’s looking to an outstanding World Series in Wis!!

  26. Just Bill Says:

I also count 17 games in which one team scored the go-ahead run(s) in their last time at bat.

And not to mention the first tournament no-hitter in 27 years.

  27. Spence Says:

The championship of the South region was about the most ridiculous (in a good way) thing I’ve ever seen…24 innings in total.

  28. SCSU14 Says:

Congrats to Coach Decker and the Trinity Bantams for a great season! With most of the team back next year(2 Seniors) and some good recruits coming in, really looking forward to next season.
